4 special things about PMKSY
Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana was started in 2015 as an umbrella scheme. This scheme is run by the Ministry of Jalshakti. The first objective of this scheme is Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Program (AIBP) and Har Khet Ko Pani (HKKP). In this, Har Khet Ko Pani also has 4 parts, namely Command Area Development (CAD), Surface Minor Irrigation (SMI), Repair-Renovation and Restoration (RRR) of Water Bodies and Ground Water Development Component.
There are two more plans included
Two more schemes are included in PMKSY, which are operated by 2 other departments. The ‘Per Drop More Crop’ scheme is implemented by the Agriculture Department and the Watershed Development Scheme is implemented by the Department of Land Resource Development related to the Ministry of Rural Development.
What is special about AIBP?
Significantly, the Central Government had started the Accelerated Benefit Program (AIBP) in 1996-97. The goal of this scheme is to provide assistance to large and medium irrigation projects in every region of the country. Under this scheme, attention is given to those projects of the country, which are in near completion condition, but are unable to complete due to financial troubles.
Later this program was merged with PMKSY in 2016. Let us tell you that at the time of joining PMKSY, there were 297 irrigation and multipurpose projects under AIBP. Of these, 143 projects have been completed so far and 5 projects have been foreclosed.
