New Delhi: The revenue department’s effort to increase GST collections has intensified. Under this, the revenue department officials are privately contacting all the businesses who filed returns last month to file GSTR-3B returns, but in November they have not filed GSTR-3B returns. The last date for filing returns was 20 November.
Now the officials of the revenue department are trying to get these businessmen to file their returns by 30 November. The number of such traders is said to be 25,000. These traders were identified from the previous month’s return data. Businessmen not filing GST returns are also being asked to fill returns through SMS and email.
Businesses with a turnover of more than 50 million have to file GSTR-3B returns by 20th of every month. With the efforts of the revenue department, the GST collection for November is expected to cross one lakh crore. The GST collection in October was Rs 1.05 lakh crore.
Order for physical verification of deemed GST registration
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has asked the tax authorities to carry out physical verification of the deemed and valid GST registrations and their businesses from August 21 to November 16. Its purpose is to find out their actual position. The CBIC has also told the authorities that applicants who have not opted for Aadhaar verification or whose verification has failed, should not get GST registration on deemed basis.
Under the current provisions of GST, if the authorities do not issue any notice to the applicant within 21 days of the application, then its registration is considered acceptable, which is called deemed registration. The CBIC has stated that according to the data, a number of deemed GST registrations were issued between August 21 and November 16, in which the option of Aadhaar verification was not taken. The board wants to ensure that these registrations are for the business currently running or that traders intend to start business soon.
