How to Link Aadhaar to PAN

Link Aadhaar to PAN

As per a Supreme Court judgement, is mandatory to link Aadhaar to PAN and mention the same in your tax returns. However, if you don’t have Aadhaar, you can e-file tax returns without the same for FY2017-18.

Now you can link your Aadhaar and PAN through SMS also. The Income Tax Department has urged taxpayers to link their Aadhaar with their PAN, using an SMS-based facility.It can be done by sending an SMS to either 567678 or 56161.

 People can also visit the official e-filing website of the department to link the two identities, in both the cases– identical names in the two databases or in case where there is a minor mismatch.



The Income Tax Department has made it easy for taxpayers to link their PAN with Aadhaar with just a 2 step process which does not even require  to login or register at the e- filing website. This facility can be used by anyone to link their Aadhaar with PAN.

2 step process – link Aadhaar to PAN

Step 1 :

Just go to www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and click on the link on the left pane – Link Aadhaar

Step 2 :

Provide PAN, Aadhaar no. and ENTER NAME EXACTLY AS GIVEN IN AADHAAR CARD (avoid spelling mistakes) and submit. After verification from UIDAI which is the government website for Aadhaar, the linking will be confirmed.




In case of any minor mismatch in Aadhaar name provided, Aadhaar OTP will be required. Please ensure that the date of birth and gender in PAN and Aadhaar are exactly same.

In a rare case where Aadhaar name is completely different from name in PAN, then the linking will fail and taxpayer will be prompted to change the name in either Aadhaar or in PAN database.

 

The process of linking Aadhaar with PAN is also available after login to the income tax website. Following are the steps for this :

Step 1.

First register yourself at the income tax e filing portal, if you are not already registered.https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/

Step 2.

Log in to the e-Filing portal of the Income Tax Department by entering the log-in ID, password and date of birth



Step 3.

On logging in to the site, a pop up window will appear prompting you to link Aadhaar to PAN. If you don’t see the popup, go to blue tab on the top bar named ‘Profile Settings’ and click on ‘Link Aadhaar’.




Step 4.

Details such as name, date of birth and gender will already be mentioned as per the details submitted at the time of registration on the e-Filing portal. Verify the details on screen with the ones mentioned on your Aadhaar card.

Step 5.

If the details match, enter your Aadhaar card number and captcha code and click on the “Link now” button.




Step 6.

A pop-up message will inform you that your Aadhaar card has been successfully linked to your PAN card.

  2. We the people from South India use father’s name as initial. Passport and PAN issuing authorities expand it. There was an option to write the name as we like when Aadhar card was taken. So I wrote my name first and used father’ s name as initial
    For Eg. My name is K.Balkrishna Pillai where K stands for my father’ name. Kesava.so my name became KesavaBalkrishnaPillai in passport and PAN card
    In Aadhar I wrote Balkrishna K Pillai
    Now I am not able to link my Aadhar to income tax site

I have noticed a great problem in linking PAN and AADHAR: In some cases, the Name printed on the PAN Card and Aadhar Card matches, but the name differs in PAN Database, for example Name printed on PAN Card and Aadhar Card of a person is RAM SINGH, but it is incorrectly entered in the PAN Database as RAMSINGH. How can it be corrected and the PAN and AADHAR can be linked?

  23. Name as in Aaadhar is Monira Jamshed Jimmy Bhada, whereas name as per PAN Card is Monira Jameshed Jimmy Bhada. Difference is spelling of Jamshed is wrong in PAN as Jameshed. Please advise how to correct

  26. Easy as it gets. Fortunately it ignored my Father’s name in PAN Card.
    It is common in Maharashtra to automatiaally add Father’s name to one’s name in Secondary Board admit slip and marksheet even if one left it out in one’s application. The same is seen in School Leaving etc. much as one did not desire it.

    Same thing happened in various other records including PAN card, as address proof had Father’s name, so application center employee wouldn’t take otherwise. In Aadhaar one dropped out father’s name and now it does not match many other former records.

    However linking worked so well despite the difference.

  43. My name on adhar is ramesh and my name on pancard is ramesh purushotam. As i m a south indian. Due to name change i am not able to link both. If there any option to change my name on pan card. As i want my name ramesh only in pancard as my other documents have only ramesh as my name.

    However , I am unable to do the linking with PAN as probably the system correction has not taken place so far. In the UIDAI site also I am unable to see the changes as it is not accepting URN number available with me . Pl giude .

  45. In My PAN card my name is shown as Chitralekha Lavangu. Lavangu is my surname. Whereas in My adhar card, my name is shown as Chitraekha Prabhakar Lavangu. The middle name is my husbands name. I am unable to link PAN no to Adhar No. When I went to Hadapsar Ward office in Punne, they have given the date to submit the application for correction of name as 14th August, almost after a month. It is difficult to submit IT returns by 31st July. Kindly advise

  46. These are unnecessary for people, By linking Adhar with PAN the function in the Portal EPF kyc also no accepting. Nowadays somany proplem getting people from the govt. I requested you to the govt you use any one of Id card for official. Don’t give more work load to give public for editing name, you can check other things such as DOB , surname father name etc but you are saying change of name as in Adhar. This will impossible to do 130 Crores Indians

  52. My name spellings and DOB was different in adhar card and pan card. So 2 months earlier i updated my Adhar Card data according to PAN card details. But still i am not able to link my PAN with Adhar. I tried it many times. Checked spellings many times.But not able to link. Even i phoned adhar helpline 1947 and also phoned e-filing helpline. Both of them are not understanding the problem and saying me to contact other department (adhar helpline saying contact e-filing and vice-versa). I think there is some technical snag.   61. I have a problem with linking of PAN& Aadhaar. In linking of Aadhar&PAN we tried both through the e filing link Aadhaar method and SMS mode both failed.Both in PAN& Aadhaar,name ,Date of birth etc are identical still it fails to link.when SMS method was used twice got a message to do it at PAN seeding centre.Here in Akshaya centre it is through registering at there counter.They will inform by SMS .Last time we got it while in air port to go to Singapore.The date given was while we were overseas.aAfter our trip when approached the centre we were asked to rebook again.we are still waiting for our turn to come.Don’t know whether they could help us .Please advice us in this case
