JioPhone not Free. Rs.4500 to be spent on Jio plans & Rs.1500 refundable only after 3 years

 

There is a very famous saying: “There is no free lunch” – You can apply this to JioPhone as well. Yes, JioPhone is also not free. Well it was never free as many presumed it to be. However it was effectively free and the case remains the same now as well. But as per the recent announcement by Jio, it has clarified that if you are planning to use the JioPhone you should be ready to spend at least Rs.1500 for using the phone yearly for three consecutive years. So, in total you will need to spend Rs.4500 in a duration of three years, out of which Rs.1500 will be returned to you after three years of device usage as a security that you have deposited earlier.



The latest details can very well be seen on the Jio website, wherein they have updated the terms and conditions for the JioPhone to make them more clear for the general public. The site says:

“The JioPhone is available for continual use on the Recipient purchasing telecom recharge vouchers of an Authorized Carrier (presently Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited) from the Company or any of its authorized retailers for use in the JioPhone of a minimum value of Rs. 1500 annually for the duration of 3 years from the date of the first issue of the JioPhone.”

In simple words, it means that JioPhone user will need to pay a minimum of Rs.1500 on Jio data plans every year. The device will be paired with the Rs.153 monthly plan. This will allow user to access 512 MB 4G data and can make unlimited VoLTE calls and text messages. Using this plan also means that the user needs to pay atleast Rs.1500 in a year on Jio, which is a basic condition to use the JioPhone.



Jio has time to time spelled it out that a user will have to spend a minimum of Rs.1500 on the phone every year for three consecutive years. Previously too the company has said that the JioPhone user will be to shed some bucks on Jio plans to be able to use the device.

New terms and conditions has made a couple of things clear for the general public, which are:

– The weekly Jio plans, which are no doubt very cheap, should be used by JioPhone users on a temporary basis. However, if you are planning to get a JioPhone, it is almost mandatory for you to use the Rs. 153 plan or any plan of higher value.

– Jio doesn’t want people to take the JioPhone and then stop using it. If you are getting the JioPhone, you have to use it regularly. For that very purpose the refundable security deposit will be refunded only after three years of device usage.



In a nutshell, device users will have to shed Rs.1500 on Jio every year, the company has also said that they will have to use the phone for at least 3 years before they get Rs. 1500 back. A user can only claim the refund against the device after using it for 36 months but before 39 months. Also, one needs to make sure that while returning the device, the phone should be in a working condition with no damage.

However there are some slabs of refund designed for users returning the device before three years. Below is what he or she will have to pay:

– Returning before 12 months: Full fee of Rs. 1500 will be forfeited

– Returning between 12 months to 24 months: Rs. 1000 will be charged

– Returning between 24 months to 36 months: Rs. 500 will be charged

Yet again, there is nothing new that Jio is saying in its recent announcement. When the JioPhone was launched Mr.Mukesh Ambani has clearly stated that the users will get their refund of Rs.1500 back after the device for three years. But a lot of people were confused whether it was ‘after three complete years’ or ‘within three years’. But Jio has made it very clear in its recent announcement that the fee of Rs.1500 is refundable only after the device usage of 3 years.

  3. It looked strange to hear that who opted jio phone wd refundable security of Rs 1500/- has to recharge minimum @1500 pa for continuous 3 years,means he has to shed another4500 in 3 years.may use or not &
    then he will get his so called security back & that too with return 8f his mbl. What a funny,that means he has to buy another mbl of higher value. (In fact , initially too it is the cost of mbl, no one going to return it when he used to use it. Also refund loose it financial value.
    SUGGESTION :-if co. Impose its compulsory uses of rs 4500, then co. should refund Rs 1500,after 3 years WITHOUT RECEIVING THE MBK from user. Then only mbl will be treated as free. Otherwuse it us a cheating & scheme further will be flopped as regards to supply of so called free mbl.

      • Jio phone is not free with 1500/- INR deposit & refund after three years but it costs;
        153×36= 5,508 (Monthly recharge)
        +
        1500×3 =4,500 (yearly rentalx3 years)
        Total cost for three years usage is
        10008/- INR

    • Bad . cheat… already there are problems..with speed..I am not getting speed last 8 months.. every time I complaint ..90 days from today..is constantly printed readymade answer…and good population density area Gultekdi industrial area from major city like Pune…so by spending additional 4500 ..instead I can go to other players..on my convenience basis…why only 512mb data???????????

    • This is not at all a cheat.
      Always compare with the existing scheme available in the market.
      If you don’t want to use then why you want buy and if you want to use then 1500 tariff per year is the best and lowest.
      And money of 1500 per year is unbelievable. Be realistic bro. ड़ूसेरे मोबाइल कम्पनी वालों की वाट लग्गहिगाई and you tell cheating and flop.

  18. Still it is cheap. You are getting equipment on returnable basis that too after 3 years. At least you do not have to invest in mobile. Trust and move than having doubts and critics.

  19. Although it seems not free. But practically it is free. Again which company is providing such an offer. Monthly 153 plan is also cheapest plan. If you purchase a smart phone at rs. 20000/- you may not be able to sell at rs. 2000/ – after 3 years. So what ever Jio is providing, it is more than enough.

  31. This is ridiculous logic. What you use as data and call is not added to cost of mobile Then some mobiles may cost over 1 lakh in a year ( if i am spending over 8000 on usage each month. it is unreasonable to club usage charges as any cost of the mobile.

  57. Totals 4500-1500 (returns)=3000/3 yrs= 1000/12 moths = 83.33333 rupees per month for unlimited calls.

    OR

    RS 2.77 per day for unlimited calls.
    Do you have any other cheaper plan?

  58. What new you have said, Jio has advertise specifically that you have to take Rs.153/= plan minimum. Do you not spend at least Rs.1500 per year with any other operator. You spend much more than Rs.1500/= a year on data and net per year with any other operator. You use the operator and the number for years together. If jio is offering Rs.1500 back after three years its unique. I am not agent of jio but the misinformation, the site is giving is not good. The plan is good. for any smartphone you spend minimum Rs.10000/= approx and that to you generally use the same for say a year or two and purchase new phone. The scheme is best at present and they will deliver the same.

  59. I think the Jio Phone has two sim, but it had only one sim slot. In 21st century most of people wanted dual sim in their phones, one is official number and another the personal number otherwise they have to take two phones in their pockets. So this single sim plan is totally flop plan.

  104. wish to inform you that there is no user manual or warranty card as shown in the video..went to the store where I got the phone from but they did not have any for any of the phones..nor did any of them know how to use the phone..as they said we are here only to distribute the phone.if you are giving the phone there should be a users manual too or your staff should be given full training to show the customer how to use the phone.The video is not clear and one cant keep looking up the video..if there is a pamphlet it can be looked up easily.
    Also wish to know if we will be informed when our recharge is due.by sms or email?
    There was no mention of the terms and conditions before booking the phone..this is not correct..the customers should know exactly what they are going in for not be told after booking as if they dont agree their booking amount is lost..I for one feel very cheated as was told the terms only after booking not before.well what do you expect from reliance..Dont expect them to do honest business..
