JioPhone with 2MP camera & 4GB memory: Pre-booking to start from 24 Aug for Rs 500

Reliance Jio has a target to deliver 50 lacs phone per week starting from September first week. The Jio phone booking will start from today by paying Rs 500 at Jio retail stores across country.



SMS was sent to Jio user stating :

“India Ka Smartphone is finally here! Pre-booking for JioPhone starts tomorrow Aug 24 at 5 pm,”

 

At the 40th AGM of Reliance Jio, held on July 21 in Mumbai, the company launched the JioPhone. The phone is neither a typical feature phone nor a smartphone, it lies somewhere in between. Effective cost of the phone, to the users will be zero. Further, it will be tied up with Rs 153 plan. The price point is the major highlight, along with the features which are exclusive to this feature phone.


Through the slide show, the company has already given a clear picture of the design of the phone and its special features. Though, the information related to the phone’s camera was missing. There was no information regarding the front camera, and also the resolution of the rear camera. The confusion on this matter has been made clear by the report from Digit. The images of the JioPhone brochure have been shared by the news website. It shows that there will be a 2MP rear camera and 2MP front camera. Also, the phone comes with 4GB internal memory which can be expanded up to 128GB using the microSD card. As a result, along with voice calls, video calls can be also made from the phone.

In order to access web in the phone, the user can press the 0 key. YouTube videos and Facebook can be accessed, weather forecast can be seen, wallpapers can be downloaded and a lot more can be done using the JioPhone.

JioCinema

The news website shares the image which reveals that, from a library of more than 6000 movie on JioCinema, the JioPhone would allow unlimited video streaming. More than 6000 music videos, over 1 lakh hours of ads free HD content in 10 different languages will be there.  

4GB storage on JioPhone

The phone comes with internal storage of 4GB, which via microSD can be expanded up to 128GB, reveals the brochure.

JioMusic

JioPhones users can listen to music in more than 20 languages from a catalogue containing more than 1 crore HD songs in more than 20 languages.

Personalise your JioPhone

Language as per user’s choice can be set in the phone. Following official languages are supported by the JioPhone – Hindi, Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi, Oriya, Telugu, Dogri, Tamil, Kannada, Bodo, Gujarati, Sanskrit, Urdu, Kashmiri, Nepali, Marathi, Malayalam, Maithili, Sindhi, Manipuri, Santhali and Konkani.

GPS navigation on JioPhone

JioPhone comes with a GPS and hence, users can also access Navigation and Google Maps.

Connect JioPhone with TV



In order to allow the users to mirror their Jio content on the TV, the company launched a Jio TV connector. JioPhone can be connected with any TV. The Jio TV connector will come at a cost.

Jio Assistant

The phone would come with Jio Assistant. Similar to the Google Assistant, the Assistant will perform the task in the phone as per the commands given by the user. A demo for the same was given at the launch.

JioPhone pre-booking

From August 24, the pre-booking for JioPhone will start, whereas it is by the first week of September that the phone will be delivered. The beta testing for the phone has already started from August 15.

To pre-book a JioPhone, user needs to register at Jio.com. Once the pre-booking opens, user will be informed via mail or SMS about it. User can also pre-book the phone via MyJio app on phones or via SMS. For offline purchase, user should visit a nearby Jio Store or a Jio retailer. 

JioPhone WhatsApp rumour

There were rumours in past that Jio is in talks with WhatsApp to create a special version of the app that could run on JioPhone. However, Alan Kao who is a software engineer at WhatsApp, during an interactive session with Indian media has said that he is not aware of any such plans. This means that JioPhone could most probably come without WhatsApp.
