Due to a master stroke of the Modi government, the issue of inflation of petrol and diesel was snatched from the hands of the opposition parties. A day before Diwali, the central government forced the states to pay VAT by reducing the excise duty on petrol and diesel.
After this, petrol running above 100 became cheaper in most of the states and diesel prices also came down with a jolt. However, still in some non-BJP governments, petrol is beyond 100 due to non-reduction of VAT. Barring Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Karnataka, in states where there is a BJP or NDA government, petrol is below Rs 100.
Whereas, in states with non-NDA governments like Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, the price of petrol is around Rs 110 a liter. At the same time, petrol is very expensive in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana. Petrol is below 100 in Jharkhand, Delhi and Punjab.

If we compare the average rate of petrol and diesel in the states with non-BJP and NDA governments, then there is a difference of about Rs 6 per liter in the rate of petrol. That is, in states where there is a BJP or NDA government, petrol is cheaper by Rs 6 per liter than in the states with Congress or non-NDA government. Same is the case with diesel. There is also a difference of about 9 rupees in the rate of diesel.

Petrol price has been reduced by Rs 16.02 per liter in Punjab, followed by Rs 13.43 in Union Territory of Ladakh and Rs 13.35 in Karnataka.

The Union Territory of Ladakh saw the biggest drop in diesel price at ₹19.61 per litre, followed by Karnataka at ₹19.49 and Puducherry at ₹19.08. At the same time, the prices of petrol and diesel have also come down in Delhi
