Public Provident Fund or Employees’ Provident Fund is a government security scheme run by EPFO (Employee Provident Fund Organization). In these funds, PF is deducted from the salary of the salaried people and saved, while for the purpose of savings, people also open PPF accounts.
At present, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has kept the interest rate of Provident Fund at 8.5 percent. Where subscribers get interest at the rate of 7.1 percent on PPF. Recently EPFO had announced the interest rate on Provident Fund. In this fund, money is deducted from your account at a fixed period.

Check on EPFO website
- First of all you have to log on to the official website of EPFO- epfindia.gov.in.
- In the upper right part of the website, you will find the link of e-passbook, click on it.
- The website will take you to the EPF passbook page- passbook.epfindia.gov.in.
- Here you have to enter your username and password. Your username on EPFO is your UAN i.e. Universal Account Number. Your UAN will also be found written in your salary slip.
- After logging in, you have to select your existing member ID. If you’ve worked in multiple organizations, you can have multiple member IDs.
- You can view your EPF E-Passbook or EPF Passbook here by selecting the existing member ID. In this your PF balance will be there.
Missed call will know balance
You can also check your balance by giving a missed call on 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number. If your UAN is linked to any of your bank account number, Aadhar, and PAN number, then you will get the last contribution information along with your PF balance. Your mobile number should be activated with UAN on the Unified Portal.
Check this way through SMS
PF balance can also be checked through message. For this, you will have to send a message to this number 7738299899 from your registered mobile number with EPFO. You have to enter ‘EPFOHO UAN’ i.e. first EPFOHO and then UAN.
This facility is available in 10 languages- English, Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Malayalam, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu and Bengali. If you want SMS in a language other than English, add the first three characters after the UAN ID. For example, if you want a message in Hindi, then you have to write- ‘EPFOHO UAN HIN’.
Work will be done easily on UMANG app too
Go to UMANG app in your phone and click on EPFO in it. From here the page with the facilities available to the employees will open.
Click on ’employee-centric services’, from here another page will open. Then you have to click on ‘view passbook’ and you will be asked for your UAN and one-time-password.
You have to enter your registered mobile number for OTP. Enter OTP and click. You will see your PF balance in UMANG app.
