What is Bharatmala Project?
Being given the Union Cabinet nod on 25th October, Bharatmala Project is second biggest highway projects in the history of Indian Transport since NHDP targeting 50000 km of highway roads across country. It is expected to roll out next year December. This project particularly marks connectivity through economic corridors, bordering and remote areas with a long term goals of expediting cargo movement and boosting exports.
Around 2400 million man hours of jobs is expected to get created during the highway and road constructions resulting in 22 million jobs as an outcome of enhanced economic activities across India. The project is expected to get supported through various financial channels like private investments, PPP models, toll operator transfer model, debt funds and budgetary allocations.
Including 9000 km of economic corridors with around 6000 km of inter-corridor and feeder roads, 500 kms under National Corridors Efficiency Programs (NCEP) and 2000 kms of border and international connectivity linking roads, this Bharatmala project is all what an aspiring global power can ask for. The project also boasts of 2000 kms of coastal and port connectivity, 800 km of expressways and over 10000 km of National Highway Development Project (NHDP). Phase 1 constitutes of 34,800 kms of construction.
Bharatmala Projects will move through states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab and then meandering through Himalayan belt of J&K, Himachal, Uttarakhand and taking in parts of UP, Bihar and West Bengal, the project will elongate itself to the North Eastern states like Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Mizoram brisking past the Indo Burmese Border. The project is also one of a project to connect the North Eastern states with the rest of India.
Still coping with the jolts of demonetization and GST, Nitin Gadkari presented a scrupulous plan to create jobs along with cutting down costs of the various infra projects by following a consolidated approach to the road construction projects.
Aiming at increasing the pace of commodity as well as community movement and decreasing the supply chain costs of the Cargo by around 12%.On Tuesday the union Cabinet approved 2 big time infra projects with a total investment of INR 6.92 lac crores out of which INR 5.35 lac crores are dedicated to this Bharatmala Project. This also includes 10000 kms of road construction work under NHDP program.
